8. If, however, the Government is very anxious

to have the new policy carried out I would respectfully sug- gest the two following provisions to be expressly contained in the lease which I am pretty sure will meet with the general

approval of the Chinese Community:-

(A) That in the event of the Govt. resuming the land with all its improvements at the expiration of the term

full compensation will be allowed to the owner.

(B) That at the expiration of the lease the lessee has the right to obtain an extension of another 75 or

99 years respectively at a certain increased percentage of Crown Rent in proportion to the rateable value then prevail- ing, the same to he fixed on the day of sale and to form part of one of the Clauses contained in the Government Lease.
